Plant Springtime Succulents With This DIY Wineglass Planter
The birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming, and somehow the air feels a little fresher this time of year. With spring in full swing, these DIY planters will help set the mood for the season using wineglasses, a bit of soil, and a few small succulent plants.
Succulents are relatively low maintenance and can thrive indoors or out with an occasional watering and plenty of sunlight. This makes them an ideal option for kids to care for, or for those of us who don’t think they have a “green thumb” when it comes to gardening. The wineglasses make surprisingly good planters, letting in plenty of light while also displaying the plants in a terrarium-like setting. The simplicity of this project also makes it a fun activity for all ages and experience levels. To really green things up, create three or four and group them together on windowsills or bookshelves for an eclectic addition to your spring home décor.
Ready to roll up your sleeves and get started? Here’s what you’ll need:
- Succulents + potting soil
- Sand
- Small stones
- Wineglasses
Fill the bottom of the glass with a small handful of stones for drainage. Then add a layer of sand, followed by the potting soil from the succulent container. Remove the succulents from their original container, and make a hole to place the succulents in the glass. Push down on the soil to make sure the succulent is firm and in place. Lastly, top with leftover small stones (or other décor) for the finishing touch.
