The New Yorker Burger

Pairs well with:

White Merlot

Imagine sipping a lighter Merlot. This fresh, pale-pink wine is a nice change from traditional red or white wines.

The New Yorker Burger is inspired by my home-town, New York City.My childhood time at Coney Island, eating hot dogs from NYC pushcarts, and the smell of a NY Deli are all captured in every bite of this burger. One taste and you’ll be saying “fuhgedaboudit” in no time.

Ingredients:

3 Nathan Hot Dogs
6 85% Lean Ground Beef Patties (or substitute 1.5 Lbs of Ground Beef)
3 Tbs. Grey Poupon mustard
4 Square Potato Knishes
2 Tbs. Olive Oil
1 16 oz. jar of Sabrett’s Push Cart Onions in Sauce
6 slices NY Deli style Cheddar Cheese
6 Slices NY Deli style sandwich pickles
6 Hamburger Buns

Instructions:

Cook the hot dogs over a medium hot grill until cooked through and browned. Let cool for 15 minutes, mince or chop finely. Mix the ground beef or burgers in a bowl with the chopped hot dogs. Shape into 6 evenly sized patties. Brush both sides of the patties with mustard. Slice the knishes horizontally down the middle. Brush both sides of the knishes with olive oil. Place the burgers on a medium hot grill. Carefully place the sliced knishes on the grill at the same time. Cook for 5 minutes and turn the burgers and the knishes. Place the onions in a grill safe pot and cook on the grill until warm.
Let the burgers and knishes continue to cook ( 5-7 minutes more depending on thicknes and taste preference). Add 1 slice of cheese to each burger and let melt. Remove burgers, knishes and onions from the grill. Now it is time to build The New Yorker burger. Place a burger on the bottom of a bun. Top with 1 to 2 tbs of onions, add one slice of knish, one pickle slice and ketchup to taste. Top with bun and enjoy!
