The Ham-Burger

This is a tasty combination of some of America's all time favorites of grilled burgers, ham and cheese, and veggies plus a taste of Italy with gorgonzola cheese and the chiabatta bread. A tossed green salad with Italian dressing and fresh fruit for dessert makes this a truly enjoyable and simple meal.


2 lbs. ground beef
3 slices cooked ham (1/8 in. thick)
8 oz. pkg cream cheese (softened)
8 oz. pkg gorgonzola cheese
1 cup hot banana pepper rings (jarred)
1 roasted red pepper (diced) (jarred)
2 onions (sliced)
2 loaves chiabatta bread
1 stick butter


Step 1 - Prepare grill for direct cooking Step 2 - Spread softened cream cheese onto each slice of ham. Roll into logs and chill Step 3 - In skillet add butter and onions, cook until carmelized. Add 1 cup hot banana pepper rings. Saute until peppers are warm. (Set aside keeping warm) Step 4 - Make 12 1/4in thick patties Step 5 - Take out ham & cheese logs and slice into 4 slices (pinwheels) Step 6 - Place 2 ham pinwheels on the center of 6 patties. Top with remaining patties and seal edges tightly Step 7 - Grill until done (internal temp 165 Degrees F.) Top with gorgonzola cheese Heat until just melted. Step 8 - Place pattie on sliced bread. Top with sauted peppers,onions and diced red peppers. Top with remaining bread and serve. Salt & pepper to taste.


In the northeastern part of the United States winter is long and cold and people are looking forward to getting out the grill and trying new recipes. This recipe is one that my family put together by combining various tastes of each family member. It was an immediate hit and has been served often because of it's simplicity and great taste!
