"The Best Doggoned BBQ Cheese Burger Ever Grilled in Texas."

Howdy y’all, this ain’t no piddlin’ burger, it’s a true Texas Burger that will melt in your mouth and get your taste buds all excited. One of my good friends and his wife were celebrating their 50Th wedding anniversary. They had a western theme party and they asked me to cook one of my great burgers for everyone, so I wrote this recipe for them. My friend came and told me the burgers were so good everyone forgot what they were there for. I thought for a minute and told everyone that the burgers were "Bill and Katy’s Special Anniversary Cheeseburger". That made their night.

Burger Fixin’s:
Texas Patties
2 1/2 pounds HeartBrand Akaushi ground beef from Yoakum, Texas (available online*)
2/3 cup Sutter Home Merlot, divided
1 tablespoon Bolner’s** Fiesta Brand Garlic Powder from San Antonio, Texas
1 tablespoon Bolner’s** Fancy Light Chili powder
1 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper or to your personal taste
1 1/2 teaspoons Sea or Kosher salt or to your personal taste
6 slices Colby Jack cheese
Vegetable oil for the grill or patties

Patty Baste and Bun Toasting Spread
2/3 cup Truly Texas Southern Pecan BBQ sauce, divided (available online***)
1/2 cup butter softened to room temperature, divided

Triple Pepper Mango Salsa Bun Spread
1/2 cup Pace Triple Pepper Salsa
1 7.5oz-jar Crosse & Blackwell’s Major Grey’s Chutney

Texas Burger
6 fresh baked Ciabatta rolls
1 1/2 cups baby spinach, washed and dried
1/3 cup Newman’s Own Southwest Salad Dressing
1 1/2 cups fresh diced Avocado
1 1/2 cups fresh red ripe tomatoes

Preheat a gas grill to medium-high.

Place the meat in a large mixing bowl. In a medium bowl whisk together 1/3 cup wine, garlic powder, chili powder, pepper, and salt. Pour into the bowl with the meat and gently blend together. Gently form 6 patties slightly larger than the rolls.

In a medium bowl blend together the remaining wine, 1/3 cup BBQ sauce and the butter, divide in half. Half is for basting the burgers and the other half is the bun spread for grilling.

Brush the oil on the patties or grill. Place the patties on the grill for 4 minutes and make a quarter turn. Grill another 4 minutes then flip the patties and baste. Repeat the grilling process then baste again and flip the patties. Spread half of the BBQ sauce on the patties, flip and add a slice of cheese on each patty and grill for 2 minutes, cover with the remaining BBQ sauce, flip, grill 2 minutes, and then remove. You can reduce or increase the grilling time to your preferred doneness.

While the burgers are grilling spread the bun spread on the insides of the rolls. Place the rolls on the grill to toast a light golden with 4 minutes remaining on the burgers. Blend the salsa and Chutney together and spread evenly on the toasted rolls insides. Toss the spinach and the dressing together.

Now it’s time to build your best Texas BBQ Cheese Burger ever grilled in Texas. Add a cheeseburger patty to the roll bottoms. Add 1/4 cup each of the tossed spinach, Avocado, and tomatoes. Crown with the roll tops and serve with immediately Texas pride.

This is a true Texas born and grilled burger. I developed this recipe with Texas pride for some great people. I hope you love it as much as they did.
