As a Tennessee native now living in Texas, I’ve enjoyed getting to experience the bold flavors of the southwest. My Texas Jalapeno Lime Burger combines all of the ingredients I’ve grown to love while living in the Lone Star State and has been enjoyed at many backyard barbeques with family and friends!

Ingredients:

Patties:
2 pounds ground chuck
2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
2 teaspoons chili powder
2 teaspoons sea salt
2 teaspoons Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila
2 tablespoons cilantro, chopped
1 jalapeno pepper, finely chopped
1/2 cup yellow onion, chopped
1/8 teaspoon cumin powder

Avocado Lime Spread:
6 tablespoons sour cream
1/2 cup cilantro
1 avocado; peeled, pitted and diced
1 teaspoon sea salt
Juice of one lime

Jalapeno Ketchup:
8 tablespoons ketchup
1/2 jalapeno pepper, finely chopped
1 clove fresh garlic, minced

2-3 tablespoons vegetable oil, for brushing on grill rack
6 good quality sesame seed hamburger buns, split
6 slices of sharp cheddar cheese

Instructions:

Prepare a medium-hot fire in a charcoal grill with a cover, or preheat a gas grill to medium-high.

To make the patties, combine the chuck, garlic, chili powder, salt, tequila, cilantro, jalapeno, onion and cumin powder in a bowl. Shape into six patties to fit the buns. Loosely cover with plastic wrap and set aside.

To make the avocado lime spread, place sour cream, cilantro, avocado, salt and lime juice into a food processor and blend until smooth. Once smooth, place in a bowl, cover with plastic wrap and set aside.

To make the jalapeno ketchup, combine ketchup, jalapeno and garlic in a bowl and whisk together. Then cover with plastic wrap and set aside.

When the grill is ready, brush the grill rack with vegetable oil to prevent the meat from sticking. Place the patties on the rack, cover, and cook, turning once until done to preference, 5 to 7 minutes on each side for medium. During the last two minutes of grilling, place one slice of cheese on each patty to melt and place the buns, cut side down, on the outer edge of the grill rack to toast lightly.

To assemble the burgers, spread a generous portion of the avocado lime spread on the top half of the bun and generous portion of the jalapeno ketchup on the bottom half of the bun. Place a grilled patty on the bottom half of the bun, add the top half of the bun and serve.
