Oooh La La Burger

When I think of France I think of delicious French onion soup, with the flavors of carmelized onions in a rich beef broth topped with a slice of French bread covered with melted cheese. I hope this recipe reminds you of these same delicious flavors!

2 Large yellow onions - sliced thin
1 Tablespoon olive oil
1/4 cup Sutter Home Sauvignon Blanc
2 pounds ground chuck
1 small Golden Delicious apple - peeled, cored, and finely chopped 3 ounces blue cheese - crumbled
1/4 cup Sutter Home Sauvignon Blanc
1 Tablespoon Grey Poupon mustard
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Vegetable oil for grill
1/4 cup Sutter Home Sauvignon Blanc
4 ounces Swiss cheese - grated
2 Tablespoons butter - softened
1 Tablespoon Grey Poupon mustard
6 French rolls - split in half

Place thinly-sliced onions, olive oil, and 1/4 cup Sauvignon Blanc in an 8-inch foil pan and place on grill over medium-high heat with lid closed. Meanwhile, in a bowl combine 2 pounds ground chuck, finely-chopped apple, crumbled blue cheese, 1/4 cup Sauvignon Blanc, 1 Tablespoon Grey Poupon mustard, salt and pepper. Mix well and form into 6 patties. Oil grill and place patties next to onions. Grill for 10 minutes, then turn and grill for another 10 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees. Remove patties from grill, and add final 1/4 cup Sauvignon Blanc and Swiss cheese to onion mixture. Stir until cheese melts, and remove from heat. Combine 2 Tablespoons softened butter with 1 Tablespoon Grey Poupon, spread on split rolls, and place split side down on grill until lightly toasted. Remove rolls from grill, top with patties and 1/6 onion mixture on each patty.

I hope you enjoy these burgers.
