New Jersey Burger

Pairs well with:

Zinfandel

Bright and full-bodied, this Zinfandel wine is a curious contradiction in tastes.

Ingredients

6 Kaiser Rolls
3 lb. Angus ground beef (80/20 count)
½ oz Montreal Steak Seasoning
1 small Vidalia onion
3 vine ripened Jersey tomatoes
6 2oz slices of Trenton pork roll
12 slices American Cheese
6 Tablespoons BBQ sauce

Instructions

Slice Kaiser rolls in half and set aside.

Hand form ½ lb burger patties out of Angus Beef. Sprinkle each burger with the Montreal Steak Seasoning. Slice the onion into thin rings after peeling. Slice the tomatoes into thick slices, enough for two slices per burger. Slice pork roll into 2oz slices then slice a ½” slit into the top of each slice to prevent curling during the grilling process.

Heat the grill to Medium/Medium High heat. Toast each cut side of the Kaiser Roll, then set aside. Cook burgers until medium, about 4 to 5 minutes per side. When you flip the burgers, place the pork roll on the grill to cook. Heat for about 1 ½ minute per side, then place on top of each burger followed by the 2 slices of cheese per burger.

Remove from the grill after 1 minute and assemble the burgers. Place a burger on the roll bottom, then the slice of onion followed by 2 slices of tomato. Spread 1 tablespoon of BBQ sauce on the cut side of the top of the roll, and place on top of the burger.
