Mediterranean Feta Cheese Hamburgers

Pairs well with:

Zinfandel

Bright and full-bodied, this Zinfandel wine is a curious contradiction in tastes.

Ingredients

Patties:
1 1/4 lb. extra lean ground beef
1 large egg
2 Tbsp. low-fat milk
1 clove minced garlic
1/3 c. Italian seasoned bread crumbs
1/2 Tbsp. fresh basil leaves, chopped
1/2 Tbsp. fresh oregano leaves, chopped
1/2 Tbsp. fennel seed
1/4 c. crumbled feta cheese
1/8 tsp. garlic salt
1/8 tsp. ground black pepper
Cooking spray
6 whole wheat hamburger buns
Toppings:
3/4 c. crumbled feta cheese
1/2 can black olives, sliced (6 oz. can size)
Makes 6 hamburger patties

Instructions

To make patties, combine all ingredients for the patties together in a large mixing bowl. Mix well with a fork until all ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the meat. Divide meat mixture into 6 equal portions and form into round patties about the size of the buns. Before lighting the grill, spray the rack with cooking spray. Preheat the gas grill with a medium flame and cover for a few minutes. Grill hamburger patties over a medium flame for about 15 minutes for well-done, flipping half-way through, or until done to your preference. A few minutes before patties are done cooking, place whole wheat buns, cut in half, on upper grill rack until lightly toasted. To assemble the burgers, place the bottom halves of the buns cut side up. Place one patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top each patty with an even amount of crumbled feta cheese and sliced black olives. Place the top half of the bun on top of each patty. Serve and enjoy!
