Lazy Sunday Loaf’n Around Burgers

Pairs well with:

Zinfandel

Bright and full-bodied, this Zinfandel wine is a curious contradiction in tastes.

Ingredients

Loaf'n Around Sauce
1 cup mayo dressing
1/2 cup French dressing (red kind)
1/3 cup "hot" pickle relish
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon sugar
Burger Patties
2 lbs ground beef (equal portions of ground sirloin and ground chuck)
2 tablespoons Zinfandel
3/4 cup crushed "NY Cheddar" Chips
3 tablespoon French dressing
1/3 cup hot pickle relish
2 cloves of garlic (minced)
1/3 cup fresh parsley
1 tablespoon grey poupon mustard
1 tsp. "hot" salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
6 slices of sharp cheddar cheese
Olive Oil for brushing on the grill and lettuce leaves
"Hot" salt for sprinkling on the lettuce leaves
6 Potato buns
6 Romain lettuce leaves

Instructions

Prepare a medium-hot fire in a charcoal grill with cover, or preheat a gas grill to medium high. To make Loaf'n around sauce combine all ingredients and chill. To make the burger patties, combine the chuck, sirloin, Zinfandel, cheddar chips, French dressing, pickle relish, garlic, parsley, mustard, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Mix well, but don't over mix your meat. Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions and form the portions into patties to fit your buns. When grill is ready, brush the grill rack with olive oil. Place the burger patties on the rack, cover, turning only once, and until done to your preference, 7-9 minutes on each side for medium. During the final minutes of grilling, lightly brush romaine leaves with olive oil and sprinkle with hot salt. Place lettuce leaves on outer edge of grill and grill along side patties for 1-2 minutes, turning as necessary. While the lettuce is crisping up add the cheddar cheese to burgers so as to melt. When lettuce is slightly charred and crisp remove from grill and set aside on a platter. When cheese is melted remove burger patties from grill, set aside for a moment. Place split potato buns, cut side down on the outer edge of grill rack to toast lightly. To assemble burgers, spread a generous amount of Loaf'n around sauce over the cut side of the buns. On each bun bottom, place a grilled lettuce leaf, a burger patty and then the bun top.
