Gourmet Burger Classic
I love all burgers, from my grandma's hockey puck burgers to this tasty burger. It is big on taste & definitely on size. It is easy to make, but looks like it took a lot of time to prepare. Any other lean meat could be substituted, such as ground chicken, buffalo, or turkey. The secret to keeping this burger so moist and juicy is adding hot* water to the meat. It also helps blend the spices evenly. Serve with other grilled veggies and sweet potato chips and of course beverage of choice! *Hot tap water.
2 pounds ground sirloin
1 Tablespoon Steak seasoning
1/2-1 c fresh or canned bread crumbs,plain
1/2 c hot tap water
1 1/2 cups Sutter Home wine, a good red one on the sweet side
3 large white onions sliced thickly
1 lb mushrooms such as shiitake, sliced thickly
2 T butter
8 slices smoked cheddar cheese (sliced thick!)
1 1/2 c barbeque sauce,
8 large rolls, sliced in half
Start grill! On a large cookie sheet set up all buns.If you like them heated, warm up on the grill about 5 minutes before burgers are done. 1. In a large bowl, mix sirloin, MS seasoning, bread crumbs,(start with 1/2 c, if looks too wet, add a bit more), water & 1/2 c wine. Mix with hands, until mixed well. Shape into 8 1/4 pound burgers on a cookie sheet. 2.In a grill safe pan, or using aluminum foil to make a large packet, add onion, mushrooms, butter & remaining wine. 3. Move on out to the grill! Place your burgers on grill, and place onions & mushrooms on grill too. These burgers can take 10-20 minutes per side* depending on how done you prefer them. 4.When burgers are about a minute from being done, add cheese. Take burgers & onion mixture off grill, and go inside to set up burgers. 5.Place about 3 T bbq sauce on bottom bun, place burger on top. Add about 1/4 c of onion and repeat until all 8 are done. Serve on large platter or leave on cookie sheet.
This is a classic updated bar burger. McDonald's doesn't have anything on this tasty burger! Even if I don't make the 10 finalists, you have got a great recipe to share with your friends and family alike! Thank you for your consideration.
