Cherry Delight Burgers

I grew up near Door County in Wisconsin. Door County is the Midwest tourist capital. Door County has many cherry tree farms. Everything is made with cherries, so I thought why not a burger.


1# ground sirloin
1# ground chuck
1/2 cup coarsely chopped cilantro
4 coarsely chopped scallions
1 cup sweet cherries pitted
1 tsp. cumin
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
6 large whole wheat buns
6 slices pepper jack cheese
1 cup sweet cherries pitted
4 coarsely chopped scallions
1/2 cup coarsely chopped cilantro
1 clove of garlic peeled
1 T. extra virgin olive oil
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper


Mix sirloin and ground chick together in large bowl set aside. Using a food processor, add cilantro, scallions, cherries, cumin, salt and pepper, pulse till fine. Combine meat mixture with cherry mixture, until just combined. Start the grill and adjust to medium-high heat. Begin making the sauce. Using the food processor, combine cherries, scallions, cilantro, garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper, pulse until pureed. Set aside. Take the meat and divide into 6 equal portions, making hamburger patties. Place patties on heated grill. Grill 5 minutes per side. During last few minutes of grilling toast buns on grill and apply pepper jack cheese to burgers. Remove the patties from the grill. Apply sauce to buns and top with burgers.
