Cherry Burger

Hot Cherry Orange Relish
½ cup chopped unpeeled seedless orange
½ cup chopped sweet onion
1 chopped pickled jalapeno pepper
1 finely chopped Habanero pepper, seeds removed
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1/2 teaspoon Chipotle Tabasco

2 pound lean ground beef
1 1/2 cup pitted and chopped northwest fresh sweet cherries
1/2 cup chopped shallots
3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
2 small clove garlic, minced
2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon Chipotle Tabasco
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper

6 whole wheat hamburger buns
6 large lettuce leaves

Combine Relish ingredients in bowl, mix well and set aside.

Combine ground beef, cherries, shallots, basil, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, salt, and pepper, mix well. Form meat into 6 patties. Barbecue patties over medium heat about 15 minutes, turning once halfway through cooking time for medium doneness, or cook to desired degree of doneness. Toast hamburger buns over barbeque grill if desired. Place lettuce leaf on bottom half of hamburger bun, beef patty on lettuce and top with relish.

In July, when the cherries come out this is our ONLY burger we make. They are SO good. My daughter works in her mom's fruit stand and really wanted us to cook more healthy, using fresh vegetables and we did and were VERY happy. Zinfandel works very well with this sweet and spicy burger.
