Burgers With Basil Mayonnaise

Bright and full-bodied, this Zinfandel wine is a curious contradiction in tastes.

Ingredients

1 large egg
2 tablespoons tap water
1/2 cup plain dry bread crumbs
1/2 cup yellow cooking onion, peeled and grated
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 clove garlic, peeled and crushed
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 pound lean ground beef
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh basil
4 whole wheat kaiser buns
4 lettuce leaves, washed and dried, torn into 4×4 inch pieces
1 medium sized tomato, washed and sliced

 

Instructions

Preheat grill. Grease or spray with non stick cooking spray for grills. BURGER INSTRUCTIONS In mixing bowl beat together egg and water. Stir in bread crumbs, onion, vinegar, mustard, basil, garlic, salt, pepper and beef. Mix together well. Form into 4 patties, about 1/2 inch thick each. Place patties on grill and cook 6 to 7 minutes on each side, or until no longer pink inside and meat thermometer reads 160 degrees. Move to serving platter when done. In small clean mixing bowl combine mayonnaise and basil . Spread on kaiser buns. Add burgers, and prepared lettuce and tomato slices. Makes 4 servings.
