Buonissimo Burger

Buonissimo Burger will bring Italy to you. This hamburger, whose name means delicious in Italian, has all the qualities of a traditional American burger and a taste that is reminiscent of fine Italian cuisine. A mouthful will yield a smile on any guest who samples it. With a patty that is juicy and loaded with flavor, the Buonissimo Burger is capped with a topping that is both fresh and original. Melted mozzarella cheese and mayonnaise blend with the topping to create a tantalizing triad. To complete the taste sensation, a toasted onion-topped bun encloses the Buoinissimo Burger. With so much flavor grilled into one hamburger, it would be hard to have only one burger for dinner.

For the Burger:
1 1/4 pound ground beef
1/2 pound mild pork sausage
1/2 cup ricotta cheese
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1/2 tablespoon minced garlic
1/4 cup minced onion
For the Topping:
1/3 cup olive oil
2 tablespoons minced onions
2 cups diced tomatoes
6 ounces baby spinach
1 tablespoon minced garlic
3/4 cup olive oil to brush on grill and on the burgers and bread during grilling
To complete the burger:
6 slices mozzarella cheese
6 onion-topped buns
6 tablespoons mayonnaise

1. Preheat grill. 2. To create the hamburger patties for the burgers, combine the ground beef, sausage, ricotta cheese, Italian seasoning, kosher salt, garlic and onion. Mix completely. 3. Form the meat mixture into 6 round patties and set aside. 4. To create the topping for the burger, combine olive oil, onions, diced tomatoes, spinach and garlic. 5. Brush grill with olive oil to keep hamburger patties from sticking to the grill. 6. Cook patties for 12-18 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Flip the hamburger patties every 3 minutes and brush with olive oil. 7. During the last 10 minutes of cooking, place the topping mixture in an aluminum foil pan and place on the top rack of the grill. Stir the mixture every 3 minutes to prevent burning. 8. During the last 2-3 minutes of grilling, brush the onion-topped buns with olive oil and toast on the grill. Make sure the inside of the bun is down. 9. Also during the last 2-3 minutes, add one slice of mozzarella cheese to each hamburger patty. 10. To assemble the burger, add hamburger patty with cheese to a bun, 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise, and 2 tablespoons of cooked topping mixture.

I loved creating this recipe and I think my family enjoyed testing it. We enjoyed it so much that we had to take pictures. Imagine 3 adults and 3 toddlers around a large table eating hamburgers. It was terrific! The parents were making statements like, " I love the flavor on this one, don't change a thing," whereas the children were testing the burgers as hair products. Is there a category for best edible mousse? Needless to say, there were several baths occurring after dinner. The pictures are priceless! Thank you for the inspiration.
